About.
American composer Navdeep Singh Galen creates musical experiences that explore new directions in tonal and modal expression with a deep focus on human emotion, interpretation, and communication. Galen’s pieces seek to delineate the aesthetics of complex human emotions and in the ways we connect with each other and connect with our natural surroundings and urban environments. Drawn from classical, jazz, and world music traditions, Navdeep’s compositions are eclectic in style, modern in approach, and often highly conceptual.
Originally hailing from Virginia, Navdeep discovered his love for music as a tuba player and disc jockey in middle school. His passion for music led him to concentrate in music performance and recording arts in college. Soon after that, he moved to New York City, and living in “the big city” sparked a curiosity in jazz music, composition, musical theater, and songwriting. He soon found himself performing his original music at some of the trendiest music venues in New York, Los Angeles, and in cities and college towns across the United States.
In addition to writing concert pieces for classical and jazz instrumentation, Navdeep is also a seasoned multi-instrumentalist, having performed and recorded a variety of instruments in a variety of roles and situations. As a collaborator, he is often involved in projects that combine music with other disciplines, including film, dance, theater, spoken word, visual art, and animation. In these collaborations, he hopes to create interesting and engaging combinations of music with other artistic forms that are unique and novel experiences for audiences.
